Three Potential Destinations for Mike Hoffman
Mike Hoffman is one of the best free-agents left on the market, as the initial wave of signings have passed, and teams begin to circle back. A weird position to be in for the sniper, as the ex-Panther and Senator, has been accustomed to scoring around 30 goals a season. Who doesn't need more goal-scoring?
While he may not be able to land the long-term deal he desires, Hoffman still has options and here's three teams to consider for his next move:
Ottawa Senators
The Senators are an interesting landing spot, as the team has added a number of names this off season. With a ton of cap space still remaining, the team is in a position to add Hoffman, who spent seven seasons with the club. There's been no indication as of yet that there's mutual interest, but you shouldn't cross the Senators off the list just yet.
Nashville Predators
The Predators want to add offense and made some moves to clear money for Taylor Hall, well Mike Hoffman could be their Plan B. Hall of course went to the Sabres in a surprise move, and with Hoffman being able to light the lamp on a regular basis, he could fill in just fine for the Predators left-side. The Preds still have almost $14 million in cap space, so there's a chance a short term offer could be made soon.
Colorado Avalanche
Avs GM, Joe Sakic continues to fleece the league when it comes to trades and signing contracts. The latest deal with the New York Islanders, bringing in d-man Devon Toews for two 2nd-rounders, was a steal of a deal, and signing Hoffman to a one-year deal could be his next move. Hoffman, at 30, would love for his next deal to be his last, but at this point in the market, doesn't appear that's going to be the case. The Avs are going all-in next year, expect them to at least make a run at adding one more goal scorer.
Mike Hoffman is the best free-agent available at this point, and from all accounts, he may have to accept a one-year deal to find a new home. With 19 points in 29 career playoff games, expect some contenders to come calling. The Avs or Preds seem like the most logical choices, but also, keep an eye on a team from the east, once they sort out their goalie situation...
