Trevor Daley Retires, Gets Hired Immediately
Trevor Daley has announced he is retiring from the NHL and he's already ready for career number two. The long-time NHL defenseman has signed on with the Pittsburgh Penguins to become a Hockey Operations Advisor.
Daley, 37, spent two seasons in Pittsburgh, winning Stanley Cups in both years and now shifts his focus to becoming an 'eye in the sky' for the team's coaching staff during games. Daley will also be concentrating on scouting AHL and NHL teams, providing player evaluations to Penguins general manager, Jim Rutherford.
Daley had this to say to the media on the news of his move into management:
I want to start by thanking Jim, Mario, Ron and the Pittsburgh Penguins staff for giving me this opportunity. I'm really grateful for it. I'm excited for it. ... It is tough to say goodbye to playing the game, it was a difficult decision.
Two Stanley Cups and 1,000+ games. Congrats on a great career, Trevor Daley! 👏@NHLdotcom has more ➡️ https://t.co/scUaUkfaub pic.twitter.com/nVcwVDh5HD
