Washington Capitals Make a Free-Agent Splash!
The Washington Capitals have announced they have signed defenseman, Justin Schultz to a two-year contract worth $4 million per season.
The Capitals lost Radko Gudas to the Florida Panthers earlier in the day, so a spot opened up on their right-side of defense. Instead of finding some more physicality, the team decided they would double-down on the offense and sign Schultz. Along with John Carlson, the two will provide quite the offensive punch from the right side of the back end for the Caps.
The Caps also re-signed defenseman Brenden Dillon to a four-year contract, which gives the Capitals one of the best top-4's in the league with Carlson, Schultz, Dillon and Dmitry Orlov. The team also signed goaltender, Henrik Lundqvist, giving the Capitals a new dynamic to their dressing room.
The team currently sits with under $600,000 in cap space, so don't expect much else out of the Capitals.
