Auston Matthews and Connor McDavid Training Together This Offseason

The 2020-21 NHL season could potentially be starting in January and players across the league are preparing themselves as much as possible for the upcoming grind. Connor McDavid of the Edmonton Oilers and Auston Matthews of the Toronto Maple Leafs are no different, and it turns out this year, they are training together.

The two have been sharing ice in Arizona as McDavid and Matthews began their friendship at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey where they spent some time together. They have been joined in the desert by long-time Coyote Shane Doan and have been blasting pucks on retired goalie, Peter Budaj, who hasn't played a real game in months.

Budaj ended up getting blasted in the head by a Matthews shot, and had this to say to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman about training with the two stars:

People say you should anticipate this and that. You can’t anticipate with these guys, because they’ll burn you if you cheat. They will pick you apart. I was just trying to get good position, force them to beat me with a great shot.

Matthews and McDavid have been skating together four times a week, and have been joined by others from across the league. Word is Jonathan Toews, Jake Bean, Anthony Duclair, Matt Dumba, Alex Galchenyuk and many Coyotes have joined in on the fun.
