Edmonton Oilers Make a Free-Agent Splash

The Edmonton Oilers have snuck one in under the radar, as the team has announced a one-year deal with free-agent forward, Dominik Kahun. The deal is worth $975,000 for the 2020-21 season, and gives Kahun a chance for a rehearsal in Edmonton, in hopes of landing something more long-term.

Kahun finished last season with 12 goals and 31 points in 56 games, split between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Buffalo Sabres, and will provide the Oilers with some much needed depth scoring. Kahun could be a great fit on the team's third-line with new center, Kyle Turris. Also look for him on the second line to play with another German born star... Kahun's best season came in his rookie year in 2018-19 with the Chicago Blackhawks, where he tallied 37 points in 82 games.

The versatile forward can play all three forward positions and has 68 points in 138 career NHL games. The Czech Republic born Kahun had some interest from other teams, but chose the Oilers for a chance at some decent ice-time.

The move came as a bit of a surprise to Oilers fans, as the team is sitting with no cap space. While you are able to go over the cap in the off season, look for a potential deal to come from GM, Ken Holland, as the team still has RFA defenseman, Ethan Bear to sign.
