New Captain Coming for the Minnesota Wild

The Minnesota Wild are in the middle of a transition period and are searching for a new identity. General manager, Bill Guerin has been busy making some big moves this offseason as he tries to refresh his club for the future. This included saying goodbye to long-time captain, Mikko Koivu.

While some teams go captain-less after their leader leaves town for at least the following season, it turns out the Wild will be naming a captain, sooner than later.

Guerin spoke to Tom Gulitti of NHL.com and had this to say:

We'll name a new captain and we'll move forward. Big shoes to fill, but my personal belief is it's an important position to fill and you just don't want to leave the team in limbo....some good guys here, some really good people here.

While veterans Ryan Suter or Zach Parise seem like decent options, they are both approaching the end of their careers, and perhaps Guerin goes with someone who will be around the team for many years to come.

Darkhorse pick: Jonas Brodin, still only 27 years old and played eight seasons in Minny.
