Red Wings Sign Anthony Mantha to Huge Extension

The Detroit Red Wings have announced they have signed a cornerstone to their franchise, and have locked up winger, Anthony Mantha to a four-year contract.

The deal pays the 26-year-old $5.7 million per season. Mantha has come into his own for the Wings, scoring 16 goals and 38 points in 43 games last season. With 173 points in his first 260 NHL games, it's obvious Mantha has the ability to put the puck in the net, and now he's being paid significantly to do so.

With Tyler Bertuzzi signed, and with this contract for Mantha, Steve Yzerman is hoping to build a solid nucleus that will be able to lead Detroit back to the post season. Remind yourself when Yzerman played in Motown, the team made the playoffs 20 out of 22 seasons.

The Wings still have roughly $10 million dollars left under the cap, but at this time, it doesn't sound like anything else is expected before the start of next season.
