The 24-year-old McKeown played last season with the AHL's Charlotte Checkers where he managed to collect 24 points in 61 games. The Ontario, Canada native has hard a time cracking the Hurricanes lineup since the team acquired him back on February 25, 2015, as he was part of the trade with the Los Angeles Kings which sent Andrej Sekera to the Kings.
The Kings originally selected McKeown with the 50th pick at the 2014 NHL draft.
The 6'1 RHD has appeared in 10 games with the Hurricanes, mustering three points and 19 penalty minutes. He's never afraid to mix it up which is why the Hurricanes want to give him another look for next season.
