Chicago Blackhawks Announce They Aren't Changing Their Name

We've seen it in the NFL with Washington's football team, and we've seen it in the MLB with Cleveland's baseball team, but regardless of those decisions, the Chicago Blackhawks have announced they will not be changing their nickname.

Blackhawks CEO Danny Wirtz met with the media earlier this week and addressed the questions surrounding the future of the Blackhawks franchise:

Obviously respect the decision the Cleveland Indians made to go down that path, but we continue to deepen our commitment to upholding our namesake and our brand.

Instead of the name change, the Blackhawks announced they plan on doubling down to create more awareness about Black Hawk and for all Native American people. Wirtz went on to mention:

The work we’ve been doing over the last several months in expanding and deepening conversations and partnerships within the native community, we continue to feel really positive about the types of work we can do. The way in which we can be better stewards of the namesake and the history, and to use our platforms to be educators, not only for our fans, but for our internal teams and making sure that we provide that reverence and respect that we talk about.

What do you think about the team's decision? Let us know in the comments.
