Oilers GM Comments on Nugent-Hopkins' Future in Edmonton
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins is entering the final year of his current contract and is hoping to produce a monster season to set him up for a hefty raise. Well, it doesn't sound like his new deal will be signed anytime soon as Edmonton Oilers general manager, Ken Holland admitted the market has changed tremendously and there's been no talks with RNH's camp.
The marketplace has changed so much, that, basically our conversations have ended and I would hope that at some point in time here, once we get up and running, we can pick up and see if we can find a solution. - Ken Holland
RNH is making $6 million this season and if he can produce nearly a point a game this upcoming 56-game season, expect to see him making $7-$8 million on his next deal. Last season he finished with 61 points in 65 games and will be looking to get off to a hot start come January 13th when the new season begins.
Here's the full comments from Ken Holland as there's lots of questions currently surrounding the Oilers:
"My hope is to find a solution to keep Nugent in Oiler uniform. Certainly that's my goal, but the deal's got to work for Ryan and the deal's got to work for the Oilers."@EdmontonOilers GM Ken Holland gives an update on contract talks with Ryan Nugent-Hopkins' camp. ⤵️ pic.twitter.com/fgg2QPhv6T
