Tampa Bay Lightning Make Changes Behind the Bench
The Tampa Bay Lightning finished last season by winning a Stanley Cup and immediately had to get to work trying to sign their free-agents. While it's not only been the on-ice roster the team has tinkered with, it looks like they will have a new voice behind the bench next season. The Lightning have signed Rob Zettler as an assistant coach.
Zettler served as an assistant with the San Jose Sharks from 2017 to 2019.
Tampa Bay general manager, Julien BriseBois had this to say about adding Zettler being added to Jon Cooper's staff:
Rob brings extensive coaching experience to the Lightning organization and is very familiar with a lot of our players and coaches. We believe our players will benefit from Rob's wealth of experience, both as a long-time NHL defenseman and as a veteran coach in the NHL.
To note, Zettler coached the Lightning's AHL team from 2013-2016 so he is a familiar face to the organization. This tenure included a trip the the Calder Cup and a record of 108-90-41.
Zettler played 14 NHL seasons and to call him a stay-at-home defenseman would be an understatement. He finished his 569 game career with five goals and 70 points.
Likely to see Zettler take care of the defensive pairings and the penalty kill in Tampa.
