The Canucks Tried Hard to Trade Loui Eriksson

All Vancouver Canucks general manager wanted to do was trade Loui Eriksson, but even though he had several lines in the water, nobody came biting.

The Canucks GM recently spoke with the media about his openness to move Eriksson and had this to say:

We tried to get him a new team, a new opportunity, a fresh start. That didn't happen. As of right now, Loui is under contract with us. When he plays he can still kill penalties for us, he's a good defensive player. We wanted him to score more when we signed him, that hasn't happened. But he's still part of our team, part of our group. He's an experienced guy.

Eriksson is also a guy who now knows he's not wanted on his current team and is supposed to just play the game and not worry about this? What a weird position to put a player in.

'Please play hard for us, but also know, we really don't want you here.'

Maybe this type of leadership is a reason all of Vancouver's free agents signed with other teams.

Eriksson has two years remaining on his contract, at $6 million per season.
