Trade Idea: Alex Killorn to the Columbus Blue Jackets

The Tampa Bay Lightning find themselves in a salary cap mess and there's no doubt at least one trade is coming. As we have shared for weeks, the Lightning management team has made no bones about it and admit they have no choice but to move someone they really don't feel like moving.

The likes of Tyler Johnson, Alex Killorn and Yanni Gourde have all been rumored to being shopped and there's certainly interest around the league in the latter two. Johnson was waived earlier this offseason and went unclaimed.

What about this....

Trade Idea: Alex Killorn traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets for a 4th and 5th-round pick in 2021.

The Blue Jackets have been looking to boost their offense all offseason and adding Killorn to Max Domi and Mikko Koivu could be what the doctor ordered. Killorn is coming off a 26-goal season and his 92 playoff games doesn't hurt. The 31-year-old left-winger is battled tested and a proven winner and would benefit the Blue Jackets dressing room a great deal. He plays hard enough to not piss off head coach, John Tortorella.

For the Lightning, this would strictly be a salary dump and a savings of $4.45 million for the next three seasons. Killorn does have a modified no-trade clause which allows him to block trades to 16 teams. No word if Columbus was submitted on the list.

While Tampa Bay would love to move any of their 'expensive' secondary players to the western conference, that may not be an option and a deal like this idea, could be their best option.

Gear up Lightning fans, as a trade is on the horizon in the Sunshine State. It's not a matter of if, it's a matter of when.
