Auston Matthews Criticizes Sheldon Keefe’s Coaching
The Toronto Maple Leafs are currently 3-2, but it seems there are tensions rising in the locker room. The team is under tremendous pressure to win and it seems to be mounting on their shoulders. Auston Matthews has now come out and openly criticized Sheldon Keefe's coaching strategies.
It was first reported that Auston Matthews was not one the ice for practice. The Toronto media immediately went crazy and eagerly waited for an injury or Covid-19 update. Instead, Keefe and Matthews had a 1 on 1 meeting. One can only assume it's about his recent comments about Keefe's coaching. Matthews stated that the team needs to play to win, not to contain two guys. He also said that there may be too much emphasis on the pre-scout, presumably instead of a game plan.
Auston Matthews came out for practice but has since departed again for the dressing room as Keefe brings things to order. Hmmm.

Matthews suggests maybe there was too much emphasis on the pre-scout, playing too safe: "We gotta play to win, not to contain two guys."
