Brad Marchand Calls Out the Washington Capitals
The Washington Capitals were hit hard earlier this week as the NHL announced they were fining the team $100,000 for violating the COVID protocols put in place by the league. It became public knowledge Ilya Samsonov tested positive for COVID, this after some details emerged about him hanging out with some of his teammates when he wasn't supposed to be.
And while the league came down hard on the Caps, now some of the players around the league have chimed in on the matter, including Boston Bruins forward Brad Marchand.
Marchand spoke to the media on Friday and had this to say about the behaviour from Alex Ovechkin, Ilya Samsonov, Dmitry Orlov and Evgeny Kuznetsov and their hotel room shenanigans:
I think the big thing is, it’s more a respect thing. We all want to be able to play, and there's rules put in place for a reason. They’re not that hard to follow. We all know the consequences of breaking the rules, and we know what the rules are. So they brought that on themselves. We've all been told very heavily what we're allowed to do and what we're not allowed to do, so it is what it is on their side of things.
You can easily hurt your team by breaking the rules and potentially getting it and having to quarantine. It's pretty simple to follow the rules. If you get it by chance, it is what it is. It's almost inevitable. But if you’re going to put yourself in a situation, that's on you.
The four players will miss at least four games for the Capitals.
