Flyers Rejected Jets Patrik Laine Trade Offer
The Winnipeg Jets were trying for months to move Patrik Laine but they weren't going to pull the trigger until they were completely satisfied with their return. General manager Kevin Cheveldayoff was doing whatever he could to upgrade his team even though he would be losing a potential 50-goal sniper, and his first efforts were surrounding defensemen as his targets.
According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, the Jets asked the Philadelphia Flyers for Ivan Provorov in return for Laine and the Flyers wanted no part of it.
The 24-year-old Russian defenseman is signed for five more years at a very reasonable $6.75 million so you can see why the Jets would have interest. Winnipeg has lost a bunch of defensemen over the course of the last three seasons, they continue to try and address their depth.
For the Flyers, they couldn't be happier they said no to the deal as Provorov looks like a #1 defenseman in the making. So far this season he has two points in six games and is playing 25:16 per night, which is almost three minutes more than any other Flyer!
Some of the best trades are the ones you don't make.
