Flyers vs Penguins NHL Season Opener Breaks Viewership Records
The NHL is back and fans are clearly excited about it. The opening game featured the battle of Pennsylvania; Philadelphia Flyers vs Pittsburgh Penguins. This game is the most viewed NHL regular season game in history.
The first scheduled game generated an average audience delivery of 972,000 viewers. This is now the most viewed NHL regular season game in history. This does not compare to Game 7 of the 2019 NHL Playoffs between the Boston Bruins and the St. Louis Blues. That game is the most watched NHL game of all time, with an average audience of 8.9 million viewers with peak viewership at 10.4 million. Fans have been starved for months without hockey due to the delay of the bubble playoffs and resulting offseason. With limited fans in the stands, hopefully the NHL can maintain this high level of viewership.
NBCSN said its Penguins-Flyers opener averaged a Total Audience Delivery of 972,000 viewers, the network’s most-watched regular-season NHL game on record. https://t.co/mCU59x44pa
