Former NHL'er Shares Details Of Sexual Abuse By University of Michigan Doctor
Former NHL defenceman and current TSN analyst Aaron Ward was a guest on the Montreal radio show TSN 690. He opened up about his gambling addiction and his subjection to sexual assault while discussing the BellLetsTalk initiative.
Ward alleges that he was sexually assaulted by University of Michigan's athletic doctor, Dr. Robert Anderson. Dr. Anderson had a history of sexual misconduct was forced to resign from teaching in 1979. However, he remained with the university as the football and hockey teams' athletic trainer until his retirement in 2003. There have been many other allegations against Dr. Anderson, but can no longer be brought to justice as he passed away in 2008. His history of sexual abuse as an affiliate of the U of M can be traced back to as early as the 1950's. The Detroit Police believe there are likely to be over 100 victims and black men were particularly vulnerable. His list of victims includes professional athletes from the NHL, NFL, Olympic gymnasts, and many more. It was bold and courageous of Ward to publicly share this experience. #BellLetsTalk
