Huge Development In Mathew Barzal Holdout Fiasco
Mathew Barzal is an official holdout as of today. He is an RFA and he and the New York Islanders have not come to terms on a contract. Similar to the William Nylander holdout in 2018, the player and team are reportedly far apart on a deal.
Barzal is reportedly looking for a long term deal with a big price tag, but the Islanders are reluctant to give in to either demand. He is said to be looking for an annual salary within the $10 million range with significant term. However, the longer the hold out, the more likely a 1-2 year bridge deal for less money becomes more likely.
It’s a neither here, nor there update. Barzal wants that long term deal in the $10mil range that I’ve reported for months now... as the days go by, the chances of that fade and switch towards a bridge contract #Isles https://t.co/VX6DL3WTFL
