Maple Leafs Provide Update On Auston Matthews Injury
The Toronto Maple Leafs are hoping to stay above 0.500% tonight. It was announced today that Joe Thornton will miss roughly four weeks after fracturing a rib. It has now been announced that Auston Matthews Will not be in the lineup this evening against the Edmonton Oilers.
Auston Matthews has upper body soreness and will not be in the lineup this evening. He is listed as day-to-day. He left the ice before the start of yesterday's practice. Matthews recently criticized Sheldon Keefe's coaching, and many believed he was called off the ice for a 1 on 1 meeting. This appears to not be the case and Matthews was simply resting.
Coach Keefe is "not too concerned" about Matthews. He said there was a possibility that he would play today, but just wasn't feeling completely right. The good news is that the Leafs are 20-12-2 without Matthews in the lineup. Perhaps his absence is a blessing in disguise.
