Maple Leafs' Top D Prospect Not Expected To Make Roster

The Toronto Maple Leafs have as much upside as they do flaws. With the addition of T.J. Brodie to the blueline during the offseason, the race for a roster spot has become even more competitive. Per sources, it appears that Rasmus Sandin will not make the cut for a top six spot.

Jonas Siegel of The Athletic has outlined the defenceman who will make the Maple Leafs' roster cut and those who will not. Morgan Rielly and T.J. Brodie will likely be the top pair while Jake Muzzin and Justin Holl will be slotted in the top four. Travis Dermott, Mikko Lehtonen, Zach Bogosian, and Rasmus Sandin will have to earn the final two spots during training camp this week.

Sandin, drafted 29th overall in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft, has had his ups and downs during his brief time in the NHL, but he certainly has potential to become a force in the league. Despite his upside, Dermott and Bogosian are expected to claim the final two spots, leaving the 20 year old no choice but to play an affiliate role.

Bogosian was bought out by the Buffalo Sabres last season before becoming a Stanley Cup Champion with the Tampa Bay Lightning. His mere $1 million contract and his veteran presence are likely to edge Sandin in the battle for a roster spot.
