Phillip Danault Demanding BIG Money Contract
Phillip Danault is arguably the best defensive forward in the NHL. He's certainly an underrated player and he wants to earn what he knows he's worth. Danault rejected a contract offer yesterday, Phillip Danault Rejects Contract Extension. His asking price has now been released.
Some guys like to negotiate their contracts during the season, while other players and agents feel that its too big of a distraction. Danault is currently making $3 million per year, but has turned down $5 million per year on a 5 year deal.
Danault is demanding more term and more money in order to ink him up. This may be challenging during a flat cap, but if the Montreal Canadians want to keep him, they will have to pay up. Danault is reportedly asking for $5.5 -5$5.75 million per year for 6 years. It may seem odd to press a team for $500,000, but given the escalated escrow percentage, every penny matters. Perhaps the term may come down if they give Danault his full bag of money.
The Montreal Canadiens have reportedly had a six-year, $30M ($5M AAV) contract extension offer REJECTED by pending free agent Phillip Danault’s camp back in September, according to @mathiasbrunet of La Presse. #GoHabsGohttps://t.co/lCrFUsOR1w
