Pittsburgh Penguins Add Defensive Depth
The Pittsburgh Penguins have been dealing with a ton of injuries so far this season so it was only a matter of time before general manager Jim Rutherford made a move. Turns out instead of an early trade, Rutherford is trying to do some patch work with a free agent.
The Penguins have signed defenseman Yannick Weber to a one-year deal worth $750,000 and immediately put him on waivers. No, they don't want to get rid of him already, they've done so to hopefully move Weber to their NHL roster.
Last season Weber appeared in 41 games for the Nashville Predators and recorded three points, was a minus 1 and had 14 penalty minutes.
Weber has played 497 games, split between the Predators, Vancouver Canucks, and Montreal Canadiens. He could soon see his 500 game come in black and yellow.
The Penguins have been tied to making a trade to help out their injured defense core, here's some names they've considered.
