Rumor: Canadiens Working On Trading Defenseman
The Montreal Canadiens were very close to acquiring Pierre-Luc Dubois from the Columbus Blue Jackets and one of the players that was rumored to be a part of the package was defenseman, Victor Mete. Sportsnet's insider Elliotte Friedman also made mention of Mete on Saturday night, that team's were calling on the Canadiens young defenseman, who can't seem to get regular playing time on their current team.
Headlines: Big trade/Mete/TOR forwards/2021 Draft (any changes must be negotiated with NHLPA)https://t.co/V87PWEtmeC

With the emergence of Russian defenseman Alexander Romanov, and the solid play from Brett Kulak and Joel Edmundson, Mete has become expendable and given he's still only 22 and a restricted free-agent after this season, the Toronto, Ontario native has a ton of trade value.
Last season Mete recorded 11 points in 51 games and two more points in 10 playoff games.
The Pittsburgh Penguins are desperate for a defenseman right now, and team's like the Edmonton Oilers, Vancouver Canucks and Detroit Red Wings are all teams with interest.
Look for a deal to come down the pipe here soon, because if Mete gets traded south of the border he has to quarantine, which is one of the reasons we will see more trade early on in the season.
