Rumor: Ottawa Senators Coach D.J. Smith On The Hot Seat

The Ottawa Senators looked fantastic in their win against the Toronto Maple Leafs, but they have looked unorganized and uninspiring otherwise. The Sens are expected to finish near the bottom of their division, but their drastic improvements should have allowed them to be relatively competitive. After the blow-out 7-1 loss to the Vancouver Canucks, fans have had enough of D.J. Smith.

Every passionate fan has their opinion of what the coaching staff and players ought to do in order to be successful. However, mobs of Sens fans have taken to social media to voice their disapproval of Head Coach D.J. Smith. He is in just his second year of coaching at the NHL level, but fans feel he is not capable of coaching at the professional level.

General Manager Pierre Dorion has done a fantastic job with the rebuilding of the Senators franchise. However, some speculate that he too may be on thin ice. The optics of firing a coach in his second year are just as bad as retaining a coach hated by fans. Although the fans don't necessarily dictate the operations of the franchise, their outspokenness in mass must have some impact on the decision making process.
