Canucks JT Miller Calls Out His Team
The Vancouver Canucks have been a bit of a disappointment so far this season as the team sits 6-8, good for a tie for 4th in the North division. They took on the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday and from all accounts were embarrassed as the Leafs made easy work and enjoyed point night against their western Canadian rivals.
Some of the Canucks big names have had a hard time scoring goals and JT Miller in particular is getting sick of his team's effort on a nightly basis. This appeared to boil over on Thursday as Miller was not shy with his words, calling himself and his teammates out after a tough 7-3 loss to the Leafs.
We’ve done a lot of talking, it’s time to just play. And play better. It sucks… we keep leaving our goaltenders out to dry. It’s kind of unacceptable. I thought I was playing left defense (covering for Hughes), and when (Matthews) went to the right, I just froze because I thought Benner was to my right. It was my fault.
For myself, it kind of brings the worst out of me when you’re trailing and you start playing a different game. We’re losing puck battles way too often. With that comes more time in your own end, and you’re more tired, and you have more breakdowns, and it’s harder to be on offense. We just need to work harder, and take a look in the mirror.
Here's the play that Miller was referring to where he got walked around.
