Maple Leafs Targeting Top-Six Winger
The Toronto Maple Leafs are going to be busy as we creep closer to the trade deadline and according to multiple reports, the team is interested in Nashville Predators' winger Mikael Granlund.
The 28-year-old versatile winger signed a one-year deal in Nashville before the season started for $3.75 million and any trade the Leafs make will need to be creative as they are basically pressed right up against the cap. So far this season, Granlund has recorded three goals and seven points in 12 games.
The Maple Leafs checked in on Granlund last offseason before he signed his one-year deal with Nashville. Apparently the Leafs didn't want to go over $2.5 million with their offer.
Friedman in his 31 Thoughts column says Mikael Granlund is the winger he guessed Toronto would consider. They contacted him in the offseason but the money didn't work. Still feels Leafs will look for a top 6 winger, we'll see where it goes. #LeafsForever #Preds

Mikael Granlund, signing with NSH for 1x$3.75M, is a solid play-driving playmaking 2nd line right winger. He's solid at both ends of the ice. #GoPredsGo pic.twitter.com/vqNfTeSiye

The Maple Leafs love Granlund's all around game and will be monitoring the Predators success. It's likely if Nashville is on the outside looking in at a playoff position as we get closer to the trade deadline, they will decide to sell off all their assets.
The Leafs offer would likely include a combination of Alexander Kerfoot, Pierre Engvall and Travis Dermott.
