Maple Leafs Wayne Simmonds Gets Promoted

The Toronto Maple Leafs are off to a hot start this season and a lot of their 7-2-1 record has to do with their depth. The roster was a touch overhauled this past offseason by general manager Kyle Dubas and one of the biggest names the Leafs brought in was Wayne Simmonds.

The physical forward has not been healthy the past couple of seasons and his production certainly faulted because of it. Last season split between the New Jersey Devils and Buffalo Sabres, Simmonds finished the year with 25 points in 68 games. Which besides his rookie year in Los Angeles was a career low.

This year has been a much different story for the 32-year-old Toronto native.

Signing a $1.5 million dollar contract to play hockey for the Maple Leafs was a dream come true for Simmonds, even with starting the year on the team's fourth line. He's been getting a regular shift on the team's top power play unit and now, he's being promoted to the second-line with John Tavares and William Nylander.

Simmonds is averaging 10:25 minutes of ice-time a night. Let's see if a regular shift with the big boys can lead to some more production.
