Ottawa and Carolina Complete a 2-for-1 Trade
We've been reporting for the past week Ottawa was up to something and today general manager Pierre Dorion pulled the trigger. This all comes after the Senators tried hard to re-tool in the offseason to be competitive, but with their 2-12-1 record, changes were imminent.
The Sens have traded forwards Cedric Paquette and Alex Galchenyuk to the Carolina Hurricanes for forward Ryan Dzingel.

The deal was a straight up 2-for-1 trade and no salary was retained.
Dzingel heads back to Ottawa where he enjoyed the best years of his career. While he's currently in the final year of his contract, expect to see Dzingel sign a long-term deal in Ottawa. So far this season he recorded four points in 11 games for the Hurricanes. His best year came in 2018-19 when he recorded 44 points in 57 games before the Senators dealt Dzingel to the Blue Jackets. He will now need to quarantine for 14 days before he can meet his new teammates.
As for Paquette, he was rumored to be on the move to a playoff team as the long-time Tampa Bay Lightning has Stanley Cup experience and can still provide some physicality at the bottom of a lineup. As for Galchenyuk, he's becoming a suitcase and now is heading to his 6th team in past three years.
