Rumor: John Gibson Wants Out of Anaheim

The Anaheim Ducks are stuck in the middle of a transitioning period between their veteran core and blending in some young talent. While the young players are loving the opportunity, not everyone is a fan. According to Jimmy Murphy of Boston Hockey Now, his source believes goaltender John Gibson may have issue with the team's direction and could be looking to be moved.

Gibson is one of the elite goaltenders in the league and any move the Ducks would make involving Gibson would have massive return. So far this season, the American netminder has performed exceptionally well, with a 2.33 goals against average and a .921 save percentage.

At 27-years-old, and a contract that holds a $6.4 million cap hit over the next six seasons, Gibson's bidding war would be extreme, as dozens of teams would be interested.

One team noted to watch out for is the Pittsburgh Penguins. Gibson and Penguins' President of Hockey Operations, Brian Burke have some ties and it's well known Burke is a huge fan of Gibson's game.

If the Penguins and Ducks were to complete a deal, the Penguins would likely have to include Tristan Jarry and John Marino as a starting point. A huge price for Gibson but as one of the best goalies in the league and with a very reasonable contract, the cost will be premium.

Keep an eye on the Ducks in the standings. If the team is switching to a full rebuild mode, expect Gibson to voice his displeasure.
