Rumor: Sidney Crosby To Montreal Canadiens
Last week, we reported that an insider believes Sidney Crosby could potentially be traded. On today's Sportsnet590 podcast, JD Bunkis and Ben Ennis revealed details of Crosby potentially being traded to the Montreal Canadiens.
The Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia native grew up as a Canadiens fan. Whether or not that has an influence on his professional life is unclear, but to fulfill another childhood dream wouldn't be uncommon for Sid. Crosby currently has 3 years remaining on his contract with a cap hit of $8.7 million. If the Canadiens are to make an offer for the legend, they will have to put up the whole farm.
They suggest that the price for Crosby will include Jesperi Kotkaniemi, Ryan Poehling, Cole Caufield, and two 1st round picks. Would it be worth trading your future in exchange for Crosby? In 2005, this deal would be a no brainer. Maybe even in 2015 the deal would be worth it. Crosby will be 34 at the end of this season and father time isn't on his side. If he plays until his 38-40 years old, the Canadiens will get 4-6 years out of him. However, will he be the Crosby of his formidable years? Never bet against Sid the Kid, but this deal doesn't seem favorable for the future of the Canadiens organization.
