Team Canada Announces General Manager & Executives Of 2022 Olympic Team
As reported earlier today, an insider has announced the expected 2022 Canadian Olympic roster. There are a number of fantastic players, but nothing is set in stone. We now know the general manager and executive team who will select Canada's 2020 Olympic roster.
St. Louis Blues GM Doug Armstrong will serve as the GM of Team Canada for the Beijing Olympics. Edmonton Oilers GM Ken Holland will serve as an associate GM, Seattle Kraken GM Ron Francis and Boston Bruins GM Don Sweeney will serve as assistant GM's. Future NHL Hall of Famer and recent retiree Roberto Luongo and Hockey Canada's Scott Salmond will also serve as assistant GM's.
These are the usual suspects who we could have expected to be named as Hockey Canada's executives. However, Steve Yzerman was the Executive Director of Hockey Canada in 2010 and 2014 where Team Canada won the gold medal. It seems rather peculiar that Yzerman is not on the list of executives. Whether he was asked and declined or was shut out by his peers is unclear, but its definitely something to keep an eye on as we move closer to roster selections.
