Vancouver Canucks Said No to Matt Dumba Trade
The Vancouver Canucks 6-9 on the season which is good for 19th in the league. The team has been a disappointment so far this season and some would say that dates back to this past offseason as general manager Jim Benning missed the boat on a few moves.
Seeing Tyler Toffoli score goals at will for the Montreal Canadiens has pissed off the fan base to say the least and Benning was unable to move out the likes of either Loui Eriksson or Brandon Sutter.
Turns out there's more.
After the team signed Braden Holtby, some teams came calling about Thatcher Demko, and the Minnesota Wild were one of them. The Wild were offering defenseman Matt Dumba, but Benning wanted no part of parting with the 25-year-old Demko.
The Canucks also tried to get Matt Dumba from the Wild before free agency, but talks centered around Demko (not Brock Boeser) and a Minnesota source confirmed the ask included the 25-year-old netminder. - David Pagnotta, Fourth Period
So far in eight games this season, Demko has a 3.81 goals against average and a .897 save %. As for Dumba, he's currently on the IR and has three goals and four points in nine games.
Should Canucks fans be pissed about this move not happening? Was Benning actually right for once here?
Who knows, but one thing we do know is the Canucks better get things turned around here soon or Benning's seat may be getting a little bit warmer in Van-City.
