Video: Details On Why Montreal Fired Claude Julien
Montreal Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin hasn't liked what he's seen from his team the past couple of weeks and he felt they were headed in the wrong direction. After a blazing hot 7-1-2 start the Habs have struggled going 4-4-2 in their past 10 games. Wednesday Bergevin made the change and fired head coach Claude Julien and assistant Kirk Muller.
Bergevin met with the media to explain why exactly he felt now is the perfect time to make the change:
I had talks with Claude in the last little while and I know the message he was telling the players and what was happening was not the same. It happens in all sports. Claude is a very good coach, it's just at some point the player needs a new voice. We had two eight-game losing streaks last year, and I saw a pattern I didn't want to repeat. Quarantine, no quarantine, Dom was my guy from the time I made my decision.
And just like that Dominique Ducharme is the Canadiens newest head coach and the team will try to turn it around. Their special teams along with getting a better consistent effort from everyone including Carey Price is going to be what turns this team around. Now we all wait and see if the changes pay off.
