Video: Oilers Defenseman Out for the Season After Massive Hit

The Edmonton Oilers announced they will be without defenseman Slater Koekkoek for the rest of the regular season after he was crushed by Calgary Flames forward Sam Bennett and suffered a broken collarbone.

The play occurred during Saturday night's latest installment of the Battle of Alberta and Bennett came flying through the neutral zone and caught Koekkoek a touch blind and flat out labelled him.

So far this season in Edmonton, his first with the Oilers, Koekoek has appeared in 17 games and has recorded one goal. He signed a one-year deal for $850,000 back in December and will now have to wait until the playoffs to hopefully claw his way back into the lineup and contribute.

As for the Oilers they are dealing with a ton of injuries to their defense and look for general manager Ken Holland to either call up some of their better prospects or make a minor trade.
