Wild's Foligno Feeling Guilty Over Positive Test
Minnesota Wild forward Marcus Foligno was the first player on his team to test positive for the COVID-19 virus and the news hit him hard. Not only was Foligno battling the virus he was battling his emotions as he felt guilty for being the first on his team to test positive.
Foligno met with the media recently and had this to say about what he's going through to The Athletic's Michael Russo:
I felt really guilty. It's kind of like (I) brought it here. You never want to be the first one or just, in general, get it. It's a guilty feeling, which is weird because you shouldn't feel guilty. But that's just how it is, and when you're the first one, everyone kind of sees your name pop up first and then the domino effect throughout the team after that.
I think there's a lot of protocols in place that make us feel safe. It's just inevitable. It's tough to say how you can actually stop this thing. The one thing to do is stop the spread. ... You've got to remove the team and quarantine them and have them start back up when everything is safe again.
The Wild have had six games postponed and there's likely to be more before the season is over. COVID-19 has been running rampant throughout the league and almost 40 games have been moved. It's getting to the point if a couple more teams have outbreaks at the same time, perhaps the league looks at suspending the season for a couple of weeks to get things under control.
As for Foligno he last played on January 30th. The Wild currently have 14 players on the league's list and are expected to play their next game on February 16th versus the Los Angeles Kings.
