3 Anaheim Ducks Most Likely To Be Traded
The Anaheim Ducks are apparently 'open for business' as we approach the April 12th trade deadline. While some names are untouchable including captain Ryan Getzlaf and rookie Trevor Zegras, the team has a number of players who could change teams.
Asked around about current status of NHL trade market, and heard a couple of common themes:
— Greg Wyshynski (@wyshynski) March 16, 2021
1. It's really quiet. A lot of teams are still within spitting distance of a playoff spot and have a "just get in, see what happens" mindset.
2. Anaheim, however, is OPEN for business.
Here's the 3 Ducks who are most likely to be traded before the deadline:
Danton Heinen, LW
The Ducks acquired Heinen last season from the Boston Bruins and it hasn't worked out as expected for the 25-year-old. He's recorded six points in 20 games this season and last season chipped in with four points in nine games with the Ducks. Heinen has been rumored to be heading to the Vancouver Canucks for Jake Virtanen for weeks, but that's now hit a snag. Expect the Ducks to continue to try and shop the pending restricted free-agent over the next few weeks.
Derek Grant, C/RW
Grant, like Heinen has been rumored to be heading home to Vancouver but so far the deal has not been finalized. Grant is signed for two more seasons at a reasonable $1.5 million on the cap. The former fourth-round pick of the Ottawa Senators has appeared in 22 games so far this season and has yet to score. Last season between the Philadelphia Flyers and Ducks he combined for 25 points in 56 games. A depth forward who can play multiple positions. Expect the Canucks, Calgary Flames and Pittsburgh Penguins to have some interest.
Troy Terry, RW
According to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, the Ducks are trying to find Terry a change of scenery. The 23-year-old is signed for two more seasons at $1.45 million on the cap. Terry has scored four goals this season in 22 games and is looking for more consistent minutes. In 103 career NHL games, the former fifth-round pick of the Ducks has collected 12 goals and 35 points. While his skills not going to jump off the page at you, Terry could be had on the cheap and perhaps a struggling team like the Buffalo Sabres will look at the Ducks and take a flyer on Terry.
Honorable mentions go to John Gibson and Rickard Rakell. At this time it doesn't appear the Ducks are interested getting rid of any of their 'big' names but will gladly move their depth forwards.
