3 Goaltenders Who Could be Traded to the Colorado Avalanche

The Colorado Avalanche are reportedly engaged in several trade discussions surrounding goaltending, from the likes of the Buffalo Sabres to the San Jose Sharks. The team is looking for some insurance after we saw both their starters go down last postseason with injuries. General manager Joe Sakic is looking to avoid a similar situation this season and is searching for a veteran netminder.

Here's 3 goalies who could end up on the Avalanche:

Jonathan Bernier, Detroit Red Wings

The one-time Avalanche was loved in the dressing room so this fit seems like it could easily work. So far this season with the Red Wings, it's been a grind for the 32-year-old as most nights he's being hung out to dry. So far in 16 games he's managed a .914 save % which should be the only number the Avs are worried about. The pending free-agent appears to be the favorite as this point to be heading to the Avs.

Devan Dubnyk, San Jose Sharks

Dubnyk is likely finished in San Jose and will be moved before the April 12th trade deadline. He's managed to find his game with the Sharks after a slow start this season. Other teams looking at Dubnyk are the Washington Capitals and Pittsburgh Penguins so it may come down to the price tag involved. Regardless, if Sakic pays it, Dubnyk would be a decent insurance plan for the Avs and someone who can steal a game or two from time-to-time.

David Rittich, Calgary Flames

At this time with the Flames getting hot it doesn't sound like they are open to moving their backup, but he's one player on their team who is drawing the most interest from the league. 'Big Save Dave' is a pending free-agent and with Jacob Markstrom signed long-term in Calgary, he's not going to want to get stuck behind him. So far this season the 28-year-old making $2.75 million has appeared in 11 games and has recorded a 2.93 GAA and a .904 save %. He's only played in one NHL playoff game and it was a horrible experience for him so perhaps the Avs look into Bernier and Dubnyk a little more for some 'playoff insurance'.
