Boston Bruins GM Don Sweeney Makes Veiled Trade Threat To His Team
The Boston Bruins are holding the last playoff spot in the East Division with a record of 14-6-4. Patrice Bergeron, David Pastrnak and Brad Marchand have been spectacular this season and are believed to be on the team's untouchable list. However, the Bruins' second line has failed to score a 5-on-5 goal this season. GM Don Sweeney has made a veiled threat to the team, but it appears to be directed at two players in particular.
In an interview with Fluto Shinzawa of The Athletic, GM Don Sweeney made some comments that may have some players wondering if they're on the way out of town.
If we have to shake things up, I think we will do that.
Sweeney is clearly not satisfied with the performance of all the players on his team. Two thirds of the Bruins' second line, consisting of Jake DeBrusk and David Krejci had not scored a 5-on-5 goal until last night during the Bruins 4-0 victory over the New York Rangers. Krejci scored a power play goal, but DeBrusk scored the line's first 5-on-5 goal of the season. This was Krejci's first regular season goal since February 4th, 2020 and DeBrusk's first 5-on-5 goal since March 4th, 2020. This happened to be DeBrusk's first game back after being a healthy scratch. It appears that these two have heard Sweeney's message loud and clear, but they must be consistent if they wish to stay with the B's.
