Rakell, 27, has this season and next left on his contract that sees him paid $3.78 million per season. So far this season, the former first-rounder has scored six goals and recorded 19 points in 26 games. The Ducks are starving for offense so it would certainly point in the direction of full rebuild should the team deal Rakell.
The Flames were believed to have offered Sam Bennett in return for Rakell, however the Ducks were looking for at least a 2nd-round draft pick in a package with Bennett. The Flames then fired their coach, and now Bennett's been given a new lease on life.
