The 34-year-old signed a three-year deal back in 2018 with the Flames and unfortunately, this season really hasn't panned out for either side. Ryan has yet to score in 10 games and has recorded only one assist. His first two seasons weren't as bad, scoring 38 and 29 points respectfully.
Ryan is currently on the injured list as he blocked a shot a month ago and hasn't played since. Ryan suffered a broken finger on the play and it's expected he could be ready to return to the ice soon.
Flames head coach Geoff Ward had this to say to the Calgary Sun:
He is skating. The biggest thing is how he can handle the puck. He’s been skating for a while now, his (fitness) should be fine. Ultimately, it’s how comfortable he feels with his hand on the stick and what he’s able to do with the puck.
Ryan is not expected to be claimed by noon on Wednesday.
