Carolina Hurricanes Waive Expensive Defenseman

The Carolina Hurricanes have decided to waive defenseman Jake Gardiner. The offensive defenseman is a surprising name to see on the waiver wire as he has two more seasons on his contract, paying him $4.05 million per.

So far this season, Gardiner has recorded seven assists in 17 games. The Hurricanes have a bunch of depth on their blueline and are looking to relieve themselves of Gardiner's big ticket. Last season in his first with Carolina, Gardiner put up 24 points in 68 games.

There could be some interest in claiming Gardiner. The Chicago Blackhawks, Florida Panthers, and Boston Bruins all have been linked to Gardiner in the past. It's going to be an interesting 24 hours for Gardiner as he awaits the news on his next move.
