Ducks and Lightning Complete a Trade
The Anaheim Ducks and Tampa Bay Lightning were busy late Wednesday night as the two teams completed a trade. The move sees the Lightning acquire prospect Antoine Morand and a 2023 seventh-rounder in exchange for forward Alexander Volkov.
Lightning general manager Julien BriseBois admitted after the move was strictly a salary dump as the team wants to be more financially flexible:
With more cap space, I would have liked to hold on to Alex but considering how tight we are against the salary cap, and with Mitch Stephens coming back in the not too distant future, something had to give.
Volkov is still only 23-years-old and so far in his young 28 game career he's tallied three goals and three assists. He was a second-round selection back at the 2017 draft.
Morand on the other hand is only 22 and was the Ducks second round pick at the 2017 draft. He's recorded no goals and five assists so far this season in 20 AHL games.
While this is certainly a minor move, the Ducks are expected to make some major changes before the deadline.
