Latest Update on Flames Trading Sam Bennett
This has been an up and down season for Calgary Flames forward Sam Bennett. While trade rumors have been running rampant for the past few weeks, it appears the noise could be quieting down from here on out.
The Flames fired head coach Geoff Ward and replaced him with Darryl Sutter, and from all accounts this could favor Bennett's future as a Flame. General manager Brad Treliving had this to say about the situation:
"This coach and player relationship could be a match made in heaven." —Brad Treliving to @DavidAmber on Sam Bennett getting a clean slate with Darryl Sutter

So far this season, the 24-year-old Bennett has recorded three goals and one assist in 22 games. Certainly a down season for someone making $2.55 million on the salary cap.
With the latest word from general manager Brad Treliving, you can put to rest the trade rumors about a swap with the Montreal Canadiens for Phillip Danault or the New York Rangers for Anthony DeAngelo.
The Flames lost to the Oilers on Saturday as their roster is trying to impress their new bench boss. While Sutter can't join the team just yet due to COVID protocols, of course he was watching closely on how each player was performing.
Hopefully this 'match made in heaven' can help the Flames take off as they need a spark. They sit 5th in the North division, four points back of the 4th place Canadiens. Only problem is the Habs have played two less games.
Don't expect any drastic changes to their roster but you can expect some small tweaks. The team is looking for a right-winger who shoots right-handed so some more help could be on the way for Sutter and his Flames.
Darryl Sutter isn’t just taking over for the rest of the season in Calgary. He signed a three-year deal, this season plus two more.
