Pittsburgh Penguins Closing In On Trade

The Pittsburgh Penguins management tandem has been busy working the phones and if you ask President of Hockey Operations, Brian Burke, he'll tell you they have an agreement with ownership to add at the deadline and go for the Cup.

The team is dealing with a number of injuries to key forwards and general manager Ron Hextall has been working the phones hard trying to acquire some help down the middle.

Burke recently met with the media and mentioned his team's intentions and how even though management is cap crunched, they could get creative a facilitate a deal.

We have an agreement with ownership. And part of that agreement is to see how much we can help this group win right now. We are looking to do something, very much. Hexy is working the phones hard right now. We like our group. We'd like to make it better. Here's the thing: We don't have any picks left. We aren't putting our top kids in play. So, we don't necessarily have certain things to offer that other teams do. The things we can offer are a little different than other teams, maybe. But if we can add, we're going to add.

The Penguins have been rumored to be chatting with the Nashville Predators, Los Angeles Kings and Detroit Red Wings about forwards and have been in touch with the Chicago Blackhawks regarding a Marcus Pettersson deal.

With the likes of Evgeni Malkin, Jason Zucker and Kasperi Kapanen all out long-term, expect to see a move coming soon from the Penguins to get some more help up front.
