Referee Tim Peel Has Been Fired by the NHL over Hot-Mic Incident
The NHL hasn't wasted any time after a hot-mic incident occurred during the Detroit Red Wings and Nashville Predators game on Tuesday night. The mic captured referee Tim Peel admitting he wanted to get a penalty called on Nashville early on in the game, just to set his own tone.
Peel damaged the integrity of the game and the NHL has released this statement regarding his employment:
Referee Tim Peel no longer will be working NHL games now or in the future. https://t.co/mrnDc61W5P pic.twitter.com/tKsg2SwGh8

Here's the incident that caused Tim Peel to lose his job:
Maybe if you're a mic'd up ref, you shouldn't express how you wanted to call a penalty against a team earlier in the game, changing how you ref the rest of the game.

To add some context to this, Peel was scheduled to retire later this season. His final game was April 24. Still think it’s a big punishment...taking that away from him. https://t.co/4KEN4wnLEO
