Rumor: Eric Staal Heading Back to Carolina
According to Pierre LeBrun of TSN, the Carolina Hurricanes are likely to have internal discussions about paying the Buffalo Sabres price to trade for Eric Staal and bring the Stanley Cup champion back to Raleigh.
The Sabres are struggling bad after a slew of moves last offseason which included a Staal trade from Minnesota, but it's not working for anyone involved and it's likely Staal is moved once again before the April 12th deadline.
The 36-year-old last played for the Hurricanes back in 2015-16 and has since spent some time in New York, Minnesota and of course the 25 games this season in Buffalo where he's put up 10 points.
Staal is making $3.25 million on the cap this season and Carolina does have cap space so this deal may not be as difficult to facilitate as you might think. The Sabres will be listening to a number of offers for Staal over the next couple of weeks as the Edmonton Oilers, Winnipeg Jets and Calgary Flames are all showing interest up to this point.
