Rumor: Maple Leafs Send Trade Offer to Red Wings
The Toronto Maple Leafs are looking to put the finishing touches on their roster. General manager Kyle Dubas and company continue to chat with multiple teams as the Leafs look to complete a deal long before the April 12th deadline due to quarantine protocols in Canada.
According to sources close to the Leafs operation, the team is interested in Luke Glendening from the Detroit Red Wings.
Glendening would fit in nicely for the Leafs in the bottom-six, providing them with another faceoff specialist who can kill penalties and block shots. The 31-year-old has seven points in 24 games so far this season with the Red Wings and is in the final year of his contract, paying him $1.8 million on the cap.
The Leafs don't have deep pockets in terms of cap space so it's likely they are trying to flip forward Pierre Engvall to the Wings in this deal, and asking Detroit to retain some salary. There's a $650,000 difference between the two players so if they want the Red Wings to accept, expect to see the Leafs include a mid-level prospect in the deal.
Keep an eye on these two teams as Steve Yzerman and the Maple Leafs management team have a great relationship and this is one deal that's been discussed.
