Rumor: New Jersey Devils & New York Islanders Finalizing Trade Deal
The New York Islanders and the New Jersey Devils are believed to be finalizing a trade deal. The Islanders are looking to add depth to their roster in preparation for the playoffs and the Devils are looking to offload players with the goal of attaining prospects and draft assets.
The Islanders are sitting pretty at the top of the East Division while the Devils are just one point above last place. The Islanders are set to acquire Kyle Palmieri who is in the final year of his contract worth $4.65 million per year. Palmieri has a modified no-trade clause in his contract, but it's hard to believe he wouldn't accept a trade to play in a nearby city who has a legitimate chance at a deep playoff run.
It is believed that Palmieri will be added as a rental player if there is an injury in the top line, but the idea of a trade and sign has not been ruled out. The Islanders are tight on cap space, but Leo Komarov could be traded in exchange to make the dollars and cents work.
