Rumor: Vancouver Canucks To Fire Head Coach Travis Green

Claude Julien of the Montreal Canadiens was the first head coach to be fired. The Canadiens defied all expectations and came flying out of the gate, but their lacklustre performance in February resulted with the first firing of the year. Travis Green of the Vancouver Canucks is said to be the next to go.

Canucks GM Jim Benning and Coach Travis Green were rumoured to be discussing an extension after the new year. Just two months later, it appears that the narrative has changed and Green is likely to be ousted from his first head coaching position.

The Canucks were dominant during the summer playoff bubble, but their roster underwent several changes during the offseason. Many attribute their downslide to the departure of goaltender Jacob Markstrom, but Thatcher Demko has been a stud on most nights.

Perhaps the underwhelming performances from Elias Pettersson, Bo Horvat, Quinn Hughes, and Brock Boeser may be a factor in the team's woes. Regardless, it is the coach's responsibility to motivate his team. If Green wants to keep his job, it appears that he will need to inspire his team, whether that means light a fire under the bench or otherwise.
